Gourmet Gringo Traditional Mexican Cooking - 223 pages - $14.95 USD

Good recipes and a whole lot more... this is the book to get for its added bonus information. The recipes consist of an introduction, ingredient list, and directions. At the end of many of the recipes is a small section called Quick Bits. This is presented valuable information. Sometimes it's a Mexican saying of some sort. Sometimes it's a mini recipe of a garnish of some sort. In any case, it adds a lot to the book and makes it more interesting.

This is a good book to check out if you need more than just recipes. At the start of the book is a preface, then an introduction to Gringo-Mex. Then a lengthy section of instruction called cooking Mexican. This covers topics like tortillas, explaining all the different ways a tortilla can be prepared to make tacos, flautas, quesadillas, burritos, chimichangas, and more. Also here is a long and detailed explanation of hot chile peppers. All the different types, names, hotness, handling instructions, etc. An explanation of the 2 words chili and chile. And further instruction on the topics of tortillas, cheeses, and limes.

As far as the recipes the books recipes are categorized into these groups:
  1. Appetizers
  2. Beverages
  3. Soups
  4. Salads
  5. Main dishes
  6. Vegetables
  7. Deserts
All the recipes have a great introduction, longer than those of the typical recipe book, and full of interesting background about the dish you're about to prepare.

The recipe book also includes a full glossary of Mexican cooking terms and an index.
