See How To Make Mexican Tostadas With Meat - Video Recipe With Transcript

This is a recipe for making meat tostadas with pork or ham. We put the meat to cook, we put the meat in the pan of water, and add onion, 2 garlic cloves, and salt to taste. We will be cooking this meat until it is tender, at which point we will be shredding it. We're using pork in strips, or any type of a boneless meat.

Now we're going to check the meat, that we're cooking for our tostadas. If the knife enters easily into the meat, then we know that it is cooked. We're going to turn off the heat now, and allow this to cool for a while, and then do the shredding. And if you want to you can prepare the meat the day before, to make preparation of the tostadas easier on the day you will serve them.

Now we are going to prepare the salsa that will be served with the tostadas. Add the following items into the blender: 1 can of diced tomatoes, 1 slice of onion as shown in the video, 1 small clove of garlic, 1/2 teaspoon of oregano, and salt to taste. This gets blended together, until smooth.

And for more flavor, it you want to you can cook the tomatoes for 10 minutes and then put them into the blender. We empty the salsa into a bowl, and put it aside until we will put it on top of the tostadas.

And when the meat has finished cooking, we're going to take it out of the pan, but we want to let it cool a little before shredding. For shredding the meat and putting it on top of the tostadas.

Here we are shredding the meat for the tostadas, when this process is finished, we will be spreading this meat on top of the tostadas. Next we will heat up the refried beans. We empty them from the can into a frying pan and cook over medium heat. You could make your own refried beans, or purchase ready-made refried beans from the store. When the beans are nice and warm, they are easier to spread on the tostada. After we've heated them up, we'll allow them to cool just a little.

Now that we have all of our meat shredded, and the refried beans cooked and ready to use, we will prepare the tostadas. We start by taking a tostada from the package, and spread a layer of beans on it. (You can optionally omit the refried beans from the recipe is you prefer.) Next add the shredded pork on top. Next add the lettuce, radishes, and cheese. Finally top off the tostadas with the salsa we prepared before.

As an option, you can also make the tostadas with a layer of sour cream spread directly on the tostada, these are very delicious. You can use any type of sour cream that you like. They get prepared the same way. You can put deli slices of ham. Then you can add the lettuce, the radishes, and the shredded cheese. And finish it off with spoons of salsa.
